Tamarac, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2025) –The City of Tamarac invites the community to a ceremonial occasion in honor of Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m., at Tamarac Veterans' Park, 7825 Southgate Blvd. The event will honor military personnel for their bravery, selflessness and patriotism.
Highlights of the program include The Miamians singing the “Armed Forces Musical Medley,” honoring the six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, remarks from dignitaries, bagpipe selections by the Celtic Bagpipe Team and a keynote address prepared by SGM Joseph J. Hissong.
SGM Joseph J. Hissong enlisted in the Army on Aug. 8, 1995, and trained as an 11B Infantryman at Ft. Benning, GA. He served on three overseas tours and eight U.S.-based tours, including deployments to Kuwait/Iraq (OIR), Saudi Arabia (TF Rakkasan) and four tours in Afghanistan (2007–2008, 2009–2010, 2012, 2017–2018).
SGM Hissong is a recipient of the National Infantry Association’s Order of Saint Maurice for his dedication to the infantry community. His awards include the Legion of Merit (1OLC), Bronze Star Medal (3OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), Combat Infantryman Badge and Expert Infantryman Badge. He currently serves at the United States Southern Command in Doral, in the office of the Joint Operations Directorate (J3).
Following closing remarks, guests are invited to support Tamarac’s Veterans Affairs Committee by donating toiletry items, non-perishable food, socks and hand towels to address the needs of unhoused veterans. Event attendees are also encouraged to view the interactive “Veterans Honor Wall” panel installation, which highlights hometown heroes.

In observance of Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, City of Tamarac offices will be closed.
2026 POSSIBLE VETERANS HONOR WALL PANEL UNVEILING
The City of Tamarac has established a “Veterans Honor Wall” to honor residents who have served in the military. This includes veterans, either living or deceased, current Tamarac residents, as well as those who have lived in the City.
The Honor Wall features the veteran’s name, rank, branch of service, and years of service. Panels 1-13 have been installed and feature the names of 1,300 Tamarac veterans.
Tamarac encourages residents or their survivors to complete the application.
